Sailing Forward!

The CALTCM mid-year board meeting took place this year on the beautiful UC-Davis Sacramento medical center campus.  This meeting marked an historical moment in the history of CALTCM as it was the first meeting presided over by our first ever non-physician president, Debra Bakerjian, PhD, APRN, FAAN, FAANP.  Committee reports were shared and the overall health of the organization was discussed.

Historically, CALTCM has always priced membership in the organization, and registration for the annual meeting, competitively.  This has been done to encourage participation. This has been made possible by generous support from many industry sponsors.  As every aspect of our industry feels the financial pinch of this “new era” in healthcare, so do organizations like our own, CALTCM.  As a result, it was decided that the only way that CALTCM can remain fiscally responsible is by conservatively increasing the rate for membership dues and annual meeting registration fees.  As members, you can mitigate these increases by encouraging others to join the organization.  Increasing membership numbers is one of the easiest ways to keep costs down.

The board members also learned about electronic charting and order sets which will be the wave of the future.  The afternoon was spent brainstorming about the direction of the organization.  CALTCM is always looking for new leadership and passionate, dedicated, committed professionals to play a role in steering the ship as we remain on course to providing excellent person-centered care to California’s post-acute and long-term care population.  If you are interested in getting more involved by serving on a committee, please let us know!
